Sun Mountain can be summited on a very steep trail which rewards such efforts with unprecedented views of Sun Valley, Ketchum, Dollar, and Bald Mountains as well as the Pioneer, Smokey, and Boulder Mountains. It is also a popular Ski Mountaineering destination that was used heavily by the Sun Valley Ski School in the 1930s and 1940s for their more advanced skiers. Avalanches are a serious issue when skiing these slopes.
